Cardinals Fan Stereotypes...

All in good fun of course. Hey, what else do we have to talk about/care about regarding this incompetent franchise and its arrogant ownership?

I'll start:

Old
Wearing faded t-shirts
irrational love of small ball
over emotion regarding Jack Buck
danish eaters
given to RVs
obsessed with St Louis being a more respected city on the east coast than KC -- as if anyone cares?

Nice
Except lay off the old guys with RVs. RVs are hot, as long as they're not used to camp in parking lots/walmart/cabelas. Gotta know where the danish thing comes from.

Irrational love of small ball: see Bo Hart. And the red tshirt thing, kinda sad. They always remind me of womens college basketball fans that way, UT, UConn. Too much of their identity/self-respect tied to their team.

douche nozzles
If you see a guy in a Cardinals hat, chances are, he's an asshole. If he's not an asshole, he doesn't really root for the Cardinals, he just liked the hat. Cocky, arrogant, stuffy old geezers, and "softball guy" are all generally Cards fans. Damn, I wanna sweep the frickin' turdbirds so bad this week so that I can serve up a big plate of Royal stew to all the turdbird fans around here. btw Cards fans: Your city sucks! It's boring, expensive , and lame. One more thing. Budweiser sucks too!!! Get a real beer. Have a Boule and shut up cause our boys are going to kick your soory asses. And they thought Yankee-Red Sox fans hated each other? Ha!

The funny thing is
I grew up as a diehard Chiefs fan and Royals fan in KC until I moved out here to CA. I grew up hating the Raiders, especially after seeing those morons lose to the Chiefs in Oakland the first time they played after moving back, and also deep loathing for the Broncos, especially after they tried to legitimize Jake Plummer as a high calibur QB, and not so much the SD Chargers, but they have gotten good recently, and now I hate them, especially after meeting a bunch at social functions in Cen and So Cal. Thing is I don't hate the Rams. Unless they go out looking for it.

Same with the Royals, I reallllly don't like the White Sox, and my dislike for Twins is pretty high, especially after a layover in Min-St.Paul in 2003 when we made our miracle run, it felt like enemy territory finally because we were also not shitty, and I kinda like the Indians but not really, and I hate Detroit. But I guess growing up more on the West Coast and not in KC I really never developed a dispassion for the Cardinals.

wierd.

get over it.
Arrogance would be mine, only Yankee fans are worse.
Series wins in 82 & 06 lost in 87 & 04 and yet all we hear about is a lost series in 85.  Denkinger did not blow that game, any more than Steve Bartman lost the Cubs game.  YOU CHOKED, just admit it!  That could be the first out, there was no threat at that point. Then you missed a foul ball.  Choke, that's one on the cards, now you're even.  Then a passed ball and missed tag on the run.  How is this Denkinger's fault?  CHOKE!   You had another game to prove your worth and you choked.

Yeah, I hate Cards fans. All they remember is Denkinger, poor guy.  We don't cry about Chris Chambliss.  No we went back and stuck it to the Yanks one time and we don't worry about the rest.

by David Howards Legacy on Jun 12, 2007 9:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

What exactly are you trying to say?
I'm not sure I understand what you are getting at. Are you saying the Cardinals CHOKED in the '85 Series? That when Jack Clark dropped Balboni's foul pop up he CHOKED? That when Darrell Porter allowed a passed ball, he was CHOKING? That Todd Worrell giving up a single to light hitting Jorge Orta was a  CHOKE job? That the Cards just completely CHOKED in Game Seven?

I guess I'd have to agree!

Cards fans
-Still can't get over 1985
-Thinks Busch Stadium, even the old one, is the greatest stadium in baseball
-Thinks Ozzie Smith was a great hitter
-Thinks St. Louis is so much better than KC that there is no rivalry: "we don't even care" - yet spend all their time dissing Kansas City

Went to Cards Game at Busch
A little earlier this season (I'm not a sell-out, and will be wearing blue at the game tonight). We had nice seats. The Cards we're losing by two with two men in scoring position, and what is the crowd doing? THE FREAKING WAVE.

Now I understand, the Cards just won the Series last year, and I'm sure there are a lot of bandwagon jumpers. However, this is a "Cardinal" sin in my book - fans out for a beer and not for a game.

In KC - if the wave starts it's because nothing at all is happening on the field. And it ends promptly once something does happen. I love the section that won't do it because they're actually WATCHING THE GAME. You're my heroes.

Living in Springfield I gotta deal with this crap
ALOT.  They always brag about being the most knowledgeable fans in MLB, but when you talk to some its obvious they are idiots and all they see is Cardinal red.  I hate the Cardinals, our city is cleaner and less congested, our food is better, our women our hotter, and we aren't in the top 10 fattest cities annually like you are.  If you didnt have the Arch you would be another Springfield with more crime.

you have betrayed the entire city
come on guys, our whole foundation is built on saying "pop", not "soda". if you want a good laugh check out this chart/graph/map thingy...

CHECK IT HERE

the funniest is how it is broken up. its soda in so cal and in the northeast and for some random reason no one can seem to figure out, eastern missouri (centered around st. looeee) thinks they are "so northeast" and choose to call it soda. southeast calls it "coke" and the ENTIRE midwest, the heart of the country and where true truth is spewed calls it what is should be called, "POP".

why cant st loooeee just accept the fact it is in the midwest, they are more northeast than anything else....

2006
Maybe this is more the media's fault, but the 2006 Cardinals were a mediocre team.  82-79, the worst World Champs ever.  Granted the 85 Royals maybe second on the list (are they?).  Point is don't overrate their preformance last year.  They were lucky, and that's it.  Just like the 85 Royals.

they talk about how bad KC is, then get reminded that there has been absolutely no discussion about us moving or needing the taxpayers to foot the bill for a new stadium.

or just when they loose.  i'll be in the hy-vee view box on the third base side wearing what may be the oldest t shirt in the park (bleach stains and all).

can't handle an informed, well formulated opinion
that goes against their team. My friend's girl got so upset and bent out of shape last night because I told her the Cards got lucky last year in the postseason. They only won 83 games in the regular year, they were the 12th best team in the majors, and the Mets and Tigers were certainly more deserving. The only reason they won was because they had a hot October. That's fine, and I'm not slamming them on that, but I think it's fucking ridiculous that they can't even listen to my side of it.

by loyal2theroyals on Jun 13, 2007 12:54 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I think that
pretty much sums it up.  Not all Cards fans are like that, but a lot of them have a hard time seeing past the Cardinals.  They probably don't even know which team JD Drew is playing on these days.  And they are still waiting for Rick Ankiel to come back as an OF.

Im not saying you shouldnt be proud
Im proud of the lousy Royals, all Im saying is that every Cards fan I've ever met in my life acts the same stuck up, we know more about baseball than you do way, and I'm tired of it.  Especially these redneck fans down here in Springfield that don't shower regularly and have 3 teeth, it makes me proud to be a Royals fan when I see some of the trash acting the way they do with their Cards gear on.  What I'm tryin to say is that ya you won the world series and its cool to be proud, but why do you act stuck up and think you know more about the game?

Alot of that "Best fan in baseball" stuff is the media and the organization trying to lure players to our team.
But the Cardinal fans are a different breed then the redsox, yankeee, cubs fans to mention a few who only cheer when their team does something we cheer when their is a great play made by any team and im proud of that.

If we played in the weak-ass
NL Central, we'd win that frickin' division too. You can't be a Royals fan and a Cards fan. It's impossible. If you're a Cards fan, you have to think you're better than everybody else and be a wannabe New Yorker. To be a Royals fan, you have to be extremely loyal and humble. Also, you have to drink a real beer to be a true Royal fan. Boulevard, not that Budweiser shit! Cardinal fans take it in the Pujols!!!!

New Yorker?
Why would I wanna be a New Yorker I hate that smog infested city and im a country boy from the capitol city!

by Calhoun on Jun 13, 2007 3:41 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

well, congrats on getting 10 rings
in the WORST division in the inferior league. Look at interleague records for the past few years. There's a reason that the Cardinals are able to come back year after year after year, and I'll tell you why. It's because the national league central division SUCKS. If you add all the teams together, the NL central is 21.5 games UNDER 500. That's bad. The cardinals are lucky to have gotten 27 wins on the year because they play in a shitty division in a shitty league and despite being 7 games under 500, they're tied for 2nd in their division. PATHETIC!

So don't come on our board and try to tell us that you're a fan of both teams and then say 'talk to our ten rings' because that's bull shit. You can't be a great fan of two teams, and you've obviously chosen your team. I'm not even going to go into the difference in lifetimes of the franchises, because the Royals are a much younger team than the Cardinals are and for that reason alone it's not a big deal that the Royals have only been to the world series twice and won it once.

You'd think that an 8-1 smackdown by the "terrible, hapless Royals" would be enough to shut Cardinals fans up about these kinds of things, but obviously not. I hope we sweep your sorry asses, because heaven knows you deserve it.

And to the rest of the RR community, I'm sorry I'm getting bent out of shape; I normally don't do this, but I'm sick and tired of the bullshit that we have to put up with annually when the deadbirds come to town.

I don't want to get into an argument, but...

You simply CAN NOT be a fan of both teams. Pick one, and be done. I can't speak for Cardinal fans, but I guarantee you, most Royals fans DON'T WANT a fan claiming to like both teams.

It's like coke or pepsi, dogs or cats, rock & roll or country, Microsoft or Apple, and any other product people feel passionately about. If you try to claim you are a fan of both, you are simply being dishonest.

i am by no stretch of the imagination a cards fan (pujols fan? maybe...) but i can deal with fans who chear for both teams.  especially guys who really love baseball, for small town coaches and the like in, oh, lets say, lexington mo or something, it's a wet dream, they get an AL team AND an NL team.  there is literally almost always a game on.
