Emil Brown shoots reporter in the eye with a pellet gun
Danny Clinksdale just reported on the Royals' post game show on 810 WHB radio that local television reporter Karen Kornacki was shot in the left eye with a pellet gun during a pre-game interview in the Royals' locker room tonight.
The gunman: Emil Brown.
Clinksdale said that the shooting occured during a group interview at Tony Pena, Jr.'s locker.
The weapon is believed to be a "toy pellet gun" fired from across the room. Clinksdale said it was not believed to be too serious when it happened, but Kornacki did not go on the air for the 5 p.m. newscast. She was at the eye doctor having the injury addressed.
Brown was in the Royals' starting line-up and went 1-for-4.
The Royals are calling it an "accident".
Emil Brown=moron.

Update [2007-7-28 1:34:6 by royalsreview]:
Don't worry, Buddy has spoken to "Brownie".
"I talked to Karen. I’m glad she’s OK. That’s all that matters to me right now," Royals manager Buddy Bell said. "I was concerned about her first of all. I did talk to Brownie too."Brownie follows in the illustrious steps of Brett Saberhagen who not only threw a firecracker at a group of reporters as a Met, but also sprayed bleach, via water-gun, at some unlucky scribes.
All this was before Barry Bonds destroyed our national innocence of course.

I did not know that . . .
That Emil Brown thing pisses me off big-time.
Dayton should cut him. Absolutely ridiculous.

RR, you make a good point
With dog fighting, gambling refs, steroids (combined with 'small market' Kansas City), it will be interesting to follow how much national attention this story recieves.
On a local level, I suppose if Karen is fine and back on the air tomorrow it will blow over kind of fast.
Still, Emil may face some consequences. I wouldn't think firing a gun (even a pellet gun) into a group of people is looked upon too favorably by the authorities.
Of course any evidence has likely disappeared as Gaylord Perry probably confiscated the gun and has stored it at a "secure location" with GB5's pine-tar bat.

First of all...
The fact that a BB happened to hit somebody in the eye is, for anyone with experience with the things, prima facia proof that no one was *aiming for someone's eye.
But this incident may prove to be a watershed moment in TJ's maturation.
I remember my Mom yelling at me, long years ago, when Mike Michaelis and I were reenacting the openind sequence of "Gunsmoke" with the type of weapon Pena mostly discharged. "You won't be happy 'til you put somebody's eye out!!," she said.
And here, years later, after a successful career and a strong loving family and financial security and good memories and greater hopes... I find myself, somehow, missing something in my life.
Maybe Mom was right. Maybe I won't be happy 'til I put somebody's eye out.

Overreact much?....and clarifications
Kornacki was struck near her left eye [not "in the eye" which would have been much worse] by a tiny red plastic pellet [not a larger metal pellet] that was fired from a toy gun.
It was an accident by Royals outfielder Emil Brown, who wasn't expecting the pellet to ricochet and hit her [so he wasn't shooting at her].
Let's not overreact here. He didn't go beat her up. He fired off a toy gun with poor judgment. This is about as bad as a towel-snapping incident.

How is it an overreaction...
I'm glad that it appears Karen will be ok, but it could have blinded someone.
And I have to disagree the this is about as bas as a towel-snapping incident.
Whatever the Royals do to each other behind closed doors is their business, but when the locker room is open there should be a certain level of professionalism and courtesy displayed (ie, no "towl-snapping", no fire-arms, etc.)
I agree that Emil doesn't deserve life in prison for this, but he is a complete idiot for even putting himself in this position.
Just my two cents. I am trying to make light of it myself on my site, www.rtctalk.com, so I can't be too critical of Vlade.

Very nice!!
I still don't think he should have a pellet gun in the clubhouse, but I do have to say that when this story broke, details were fairly sketchy. The report said a 'pellet' gun, not a toy gun, nerf gun, or BB gun. I thought of lead pellets that you use to shoot dogs in the ass when they are crapping in your lawn.
given the new details, my response may be a bit reactionary looking back, but if someone had a 'real' CO2 pellet gun in the clubhouse, I would be calling the Royals to express my displeasure.
