Joey bunting
Not a bad move.  Joey is a great bunter and is fairly likely to beat it out.  So it is never a pure sacrifice for Joey.  He's got a good chance to turn it into a single.

i diagree 100%
normally, i would be fine with joey bunting. but those ARE THE ONLY TWO OUTS HE HAS GOTTEN ALL INNING!!!!

when a pitcher has gone through 7 batters, getting none of them out, it is NEVER a good idea to try and bunt people over. obviously what you have been doing so far has been working, you just let gator hit and go from there...

Double header pitching already set
Davies and Meche.  The question is Saturday's starter.

by Scott McKinney on Aug 29, 2007 9:44 PM EDT up reply actions

When was that announced
As of this morning, it was going to be either Buckner or Duckworth.  The decision had not yet been made.  It is the subject of one of the diaries today.

by Scott McKinney on Aug 29, 2007 9:47 PM EDT up reply actions

From the Royal's homepage
"Duckworth's the choice: Bell finally settled on right-hander Brandon Duckworth as the starter in Saturday morning's game at Minnesota. The alternative was rookie right-hander Billy Buckner.

"The reason for that is it gives us the ability to have two extra pitchers for the doubleheader as opposed to one," Bell said.

"How that works out, don't ask me."

The doubleheader is on Friday at Minnesota, the day before rosters can be expanded from the current 25-man limit. However, the Royals could make some between-game moves, shuffling players between the Kansas City and Omaha rosters, to fill needs for the second game."

by James Quinn on Aug 29, 2007 9:48 PM EDT up reply actions

So we are kind of difficult to play right now and have been for months.  We need some offensive additions, more development of young players and we'll be for real for a complete season.

Anyone else think different?
Looking like Cleveland wins central...wildcard Seattle?
Let's Go Blues!

Hate to say it
But I think the Yankees will take the wildcard.  Their pitching and offense have both really come around.

I hope they don't have enough pitching
but the way the Tigers are playing, I don't like their odds and Seattle has been really lucky. I just hope Seattle's coach doesn't turn into a pumpkin soon. They remind me of a slightly better version of the 2003 Royals.

I will say one thing
about the Yankees. I love that Joba Chamberlain. He's just untouchable and he goes out there with such passion. He's going to be one to watch.

It's awful
On top of buying the best FA's, the Yankees are now developing some of the best young pitchers.  Hughes, Chamberlain, Kennedy.  They may be building another juggernaut.

by Scott McKinney on Aug 29, 2007 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions

I've seen Hughes and Chamberlain
and they're both impressive. I hear a lot about Kennedy and if he's half the pitcher they say he is, we're all in trouble.

One thing I"m starting to enjoy every year
Torpedoing the Tigers season towards the end of August / beginning of September!
winning records follow good bullpens

ballgame
Nice way to win it. Just win it early.

Nice win
Dominant pitching and one good inning.  Sometimes that's enough.

Series win!!
Tomorrow, sweep? Let's go blue!

All right.. a great game
by the offense and the pitching staff.  I agree with cmkellar.... tommorrow the sweep.  If we can over take the Twins then we can at least screw up the works in the Central.  Go Blue.....

A breath of fresh air....
Who's up for three consecutive winning months, the first time that's happened since 1994?  The R's would have to win 3 straight.  Let's get back to that expected W-L, boys.

Glad to see the boys toss a shutout and pick up a "W".  It's been teeter-totter all year.  Every time they lose two in a row, they pick up again where they left off before.

Temporarily, all is dandy with the universe!

i'd be tempted to count 14-14 as
a winning season. It's pretty damn good for this team, after all.
