Royals/Cubs Bet, Revisited

Last night's Cub victory, combined with the Royals' loss to the White Sox, clinched a better season record for the Cubs in 2007.

Thus I win the bet made with Royals Review's NHZ, detailed in this diary posted at the end of spring training.

Drop me an email and we'll make arrangements to get you a BCB T-shirt (we just got new ones made!) and have you photographed in one.

See you next spring in Arizona!

Technically NHZ lost
But in my eyes he won.

KC vs. NL 10-8 (.556)

CHC vs. NL 71-68 (.511)

Yea
But they beat up on the White Sox (5-1). Who hasn't done that this year?

Oh, the Royals, that's who (3-9).

Neither would the royals.

See what a good manager and a
few bucks can do.  Lou vs Dusty.... most of the players are the same and Lou has them playing together.  He has also used his AAA team this year.  Dusty would rather have had brought in a gritty vet to play than to have called up anyone.  Remind you of someone...

Only 11 days left in the bloated regime of one Mr. Buddy Bell and his cronies.

No, most of the players are NOT the same.
Only three regulars return from 2006: Lee, Ramirez and Jones.

And only one starting pitcher: Zambrano (OK, two, if you count the 1/3 of a good season from Rich Hill in 2006).

It's a very different team. But your point is right -- Lou's approach is very different, and that's been as much to credit for the success as the change in personnel.

its kinda sad that the Cubs just clinched this
if the Royals hadn't melted down in Sept, this might have stayed interesting for awhile

I'll give it to you bleedcubbieblue
and I have to admit that I'm rooting for the Cubs to win the series because we lost this little bet.
Most of the Cubs fans that I have met have been great fans who are genuinely nice and knowledgable. You weren't overly gloating. You claimed your victory in a polite and respectful way. Then, I see guys like the one above yacking his ass off about how much better his team is than mine and how payroll doesn't matter. Well, let me tell you something hotshot. The last time you nobodys won anything most of the country didn't have running water. What was it, the McKinley administration? I get so damn tired of people with teams that haven't done jack shit in forever trying to talk junk to us Royals fans. Your division is the short bus of MLB. So, the pathetic Cardinals got lucky at the right time last year. Ancient history. Let's see somebody do it again. How about you do something before you spout off at the mouth. You're leading a division of high school teams. Whoo-Hoo!! Let's throw a ticker tape parade! You sound like a Cardinal fan, pompus and arrogant for no reason.

I've done nothing of the sort and I challenge you to  find any place I even come close to saying something like that. I'm simply expressing my stance on payroll's affect on a ballclub. Because you are defensive does not mean I'm attacking you. It was NEVER my intention to "talk junk" and I'm sorry If you felt I was.

Hey, what can you do?
The Cubs are better than the Royals (by how much is another matter), and the difference in division-strength absolutely destroyed me. Still, this was definitely a fun bet and it was, to be honest, an "on principle" thing. I probably could've asked for a handicap, but what the heck; you gotta have FAITH.

Good luck to the Cubs from here on out. They definitely have already exceded my expectations this year.

Being a fan is irrational, but what is the alternative?
