Baseball's hottest team travels to Chicago today for a matchup against the World Champions that has the entire city of Chicago talking. Scott Elarton (0-4, 4.28) takes the mound against the mercurial (or is it just consistently not quite as good as you think he could be?) Jon "leave out the h" Garland. Garland's 2006 ERA is positively Glassian (7.11).
Elarton takes his awful BB-K ratio (21 BBs, 12 Ks) to Chicago, which means that pretty 4.28 ERA might get uglier by the end of the 10 o'clock news tonight. In fact, bet on it.
Just for grins, here's a quote from Joe Sheehan's chat today,
Greg (Boulder, CO): Over/under on the Royals winning 40?Personally, I have no idea how this team could possibly win 63 games, which more or less is the goal. 53 doesn't look sure either.Joe Sheehan: I'd say it's 50-50. There are enough things that can go right--DeJesus coming back healthy, Greinke returning, Gordon coming up--to push them over that number.
They'll have the #1 pick in a pretty good draft next year, that's certain.
BP's Playoff Odds Report has them still playing like a 63 win team, based only on this season's data, which absolutely floors me. Then again, the pitching has had its moments, which is really all you need.
Anyway, Garland's hittable, but I see no chance of the Royals winning this game... Not against a White Sox team thats actually scoring. The Royal lineup is just gonna be too damn awful.
