All hail Odalis Perez!
The malcontented hurler makes his Royals debut tonight in a very hot Kansas City. Perez is having a rough year, with a 4-4 record and a 6.83 ERA. At Dodger Stadium, he had a 6.26 ERA before being traded, which is Joe Mays territory.
As random as hell flyers go, Perez isn't bad considering the widely reported claim that the Dodgers are covering for most of his salary. Sure, since 1998 he's been better than league average exactly two times, in 2002 and 2004. But whats the alternative? Self-immolation because Bobby Keppel didn't get enough of a shot?
Look at it this way, at least we're developing a theme. The Royals pitching staff has long been what "JQ" called a randomly generated, macbre one and the appearance of a fat, unhappy, run-tastic Odalis Perez fits perfectly.
Considering the struggles of Mark Buerhle (9-9, 4.81 ERA, 11.48 ERA in last 5 starts) this could be another long game at the K between the Sox and Royals.
