Eric Wedge Wins SB Nation Manager of the Year

New, comments

Were there really any good candidates for AL Manager of the Year? I didn't really think so. Finding three guys to vote for was like being asked to name my three favorite Martin Short movies, and I'm granting that Captain Ron is making the cut. Its hard to look at what Joe Torre or Terry Francona do and really find it all that important, given the talent they have on hand. Sure, we all love Mike Scioscia as well, yaaa baserunning and all that, but the Royals may have won the AL West this year. Mike Hargrove and the Mariners certainly fit the MOY template as a surprise team, except that dude quit his job during the season, and then his replacement presided over their epic meltdown. Fun. Even the guy who won, and who probably will win the "real" award is actually in intellectual conflict with his GM on most matters.

Here's the results:

American League 1st 2nd 3rd Points
Eric Wedge 16 3 - 89
Joe Torre 1 7 3 29
Mike Scioscia 2 4 6 28
Mike Hargrove - 1 4 8
Terry Francona - 1 3 6
Ozzie Guillen - 1 1 4
John McLaren - 1 - 3
Buddy Bell - 1 - 3
Sam Perlozzo - - 1 1
Ron Washington - - 1 1

Ron Washington, really? Sam Perlozzo, really? Buddy Bell, really?

What a silly award.

I voted this way: 1. Eric Wedge
2. Mike Hargrove (haha)
3. Ozzie Guillen
