His results over the years have been decent, except for his HR rate. From 2003 to 20011, he had the 11th worst HR/9 rate in the league (min 800 IP). It can be seen in the difference in his FIP and xFIP. The problem is mainly due to RHH who have hit 1.4 HR/9 vice LHH who have hit only 0.8 HR/9.
Injuries:
Chris missed all of 2008 and 2009 after under going Tommy Surgery. After returning, his fastball velocity was the same as before the surgery.
In 2011, he missed 4 games due to an abdomen injury.
Conclusion:
I like the idea of picking of Chris Capuano as a short term solution for the team in 2012. His strikeout and walk numbers are close to Paulino's, but a HR/9 near Bruce Chen is a detriment. Pitching half his games in Kauffman Stadium will help keep some of his fly balls in the park. I think a contract in the $2 to $4 million range for 1 year would be good a good investment.
