Remember in April when we were so excited about how the offense was overperforming? Well regression to the mean hurts. Hard. Runs per game, per month:
April: 5.00
May: 4.33
June: 3.56
July: 5.40
Wait Retro, July is actually a bounce-back month! Well, we scored 29 runs combined in two July games. Aside from those two games, we have averaged 3.13 runs in eight July games. And why should today be the day to rebound, against one of the best young pitchers in the game, gunning to become the first Tigers pitcher since Jack Morris to have twelve wins by the break? BECAUSE YOST GETS RESULTS!
Other notes:Seven of the nine starters today had a base hit, but no one had a multi-hit game.
Chris Getz stole his seventeenth base of the year, the only good thing he has going for him at this point.
Eric Hosmer tried to steal third for some reason.
Phil Cuzzi is the worst umpire not named Angel Hernandez, Joe West or C.B. Bucknor.
Jeff Francis seems to raise his game on days the offense stinks. There is something kinda admirable about that I suppose, but I don't know why.
The Royals have the worst record in the league in case you were wondering. The war with Baltimore begins!
