Somewhere, Joaquin Andujar is destroying a toilet.....
Vin Mazzaro rebounded from his performance in Pittsburgh with six shutout innings. The Cards were pretty punchless all night, only mounting a threat in the third. If you take out the night he was left out to dry, Vin now has a 3.45 ERA in 47 innings for the Royals.
Vin also has as many hits this year as Lorenzo Cain.
Ned's crazy small ball appropriately paid off today, and the Best Fans in Baseball applauded politely. An Alcides Escobar steal of third set up an RBI single by Jarrod Dyson in the second, and a sacrifice bunt by Chris Getz set up an RBI single by Jeff Francoeur in the third.
Roman Colon, inserted on the roster for no explicable reason, was inserted into this game for no explicable reason. Not surprisingly, he gave up the only two runs the Cards would score all night. Fortunately last year's All-Star - Aaron Crow - and most likely this year's All-Star - Jonathan Broxton - shut things down for a fourth straight victory for our Royals.
Missouri is safe again...but for how long?
