I may write up more later on Perez plate discipline, but here is a list of players that are +/- 1% in K% and BB% to Perez's career line of 4.2% BB% and 9.3% K%. Try not to throw up.

Leaders from 2002 to 2012 (combined data):

Name PA BB% K% wRC+
Yuniesky Betancourt 3869 3.3% 9.4% 78
Bengie Molina 3722 4.0% 9.3% 89
Toby Hall 1952 4.2% 8.9% 70
Neifi Perez 1769 3.8% 8.1% 59
Kenji Johjima 1722 3.8% 8.6% 90
Mike Redmond 1413 4.7% 9.8% 81
Tike Redman 1312 4.6% 8.8% 86
Deivi Cruz 1278 3.2% 9.0% 75

If you are still able to keep reading, I changed the query for just comparable single seasons:

Leaders from 2002 to 2012 (single season data):

Name Season BB% K% wRC+
Robinson Cano 2009 4.5% 9.3% 120
Freddy Sanchez 2006 4.9% 8.2% 119
Ichiro Suzuki 2003 5.0% 9.5% 115
Cristian Guzman 2008 3.8% 9.3% 105
Kenji Johjima 2006 3.7% 8.5% 105
Joe Crede 2006 4.8% 9.9% 104
Shea Hillenbrand 2004 4.0% 8.1% 104
Jose Lopez 2008 3.9% 9.8% 101
Ben Revere 2012 5.0% 8.5% 98
Kurt Suzuki 2009 4.6% 9.6% 94
Jay Payton 2006 3.7% 8.8% 92
A.J. Pierzynski 2009 4.5% 9.7% 90
Miguel Tejada 2010 4.4% 9.8% 89
Ichiro Suzuki 2012 3.4% 9.6% 82
Tike Redman 2004 4.0% 9.0% 76
Jack Wilson 2005 4.9% 9.1% 71
Yuniesky Betancourt 2009 4.1% 8.7% 59

The list of player is full of some good, some bad and one walking scum of the earth. They are all high contact hitters and only Ichiro and Cano would be considered stars.

Perez hopefully will improve his plate discipline over his career as most hitters do as they age. If he does continue his current plate discipline levels though, he may end up struggling mightily at the plate.
