Saturday Night Game Thread: Royals vs Angels

Season on the brink...

The Royals are just three games from being eliminated from the Wild Card race. And I thought the addition of the extra team was supposed to help our chances.

Tonight marks yet another return of Zack Greinke to Kauffman Stadium. Back on June 12, Alex Gordon greeted our former Cy Young Award winner with a leadoff home run. That was the only run he surrendered, going seven innings and striking out eight. He didn't get a decision as - in a familiar refrain - his team couldn't score any runs in support. The Royals eventually won that contest 2-1 on a Billy Butler single in the eighth. After Chris Getz laid down a beautiful bunt to move Gordon from second to third with no outs.

(Insert obligatory mention that Greinke still has his condo on the Plaza.)

He'll face off against Jeremy Guthrie this evening. Guthrie has pitched into the seventh inning in seven of his last eight starts.

It's a perfect night for a ballgame. It's also a perfect night to be on the internet. We are all winners.
