The Royals clobbered the Diamondbacks yesterday by a score of 16-4. I wish these two were scheduled to play during the regular season. The GR!T factor would be off the charts.
Adam Moore and Max Ramirez were the heroes yesterday. Who will be awesome today?
Today's lineup:
Jarrod Dyson - CF
Alcides Escobar - SS
Eric Hosmer - 1B
Billy Butler - DH
Salvador Perez - C
Mike Moustakas - 3B
David Lough - RF
Johnny Giavotella - 2B
Willy Taveras - LF
Wade Davis - SP
Today is the start of the rotation taking the mound. As Dutton notes, pitching coach Dave Eiland believes starters need six spring starts to prepare for the season. Since the WBC means an extended spring slate of games, the rotation sat out the first few games. Eiland's theory makes sense to me, but I'd listen to arguments about starters needing four or five turns in spring to get ready. Certainly no more than six.
The rest of the week has James Shields pitching Thursday, Ervin Santana on Friday and Jeremy Guthrie on Saturday. Luke Hochevar and Bruce Chen will pitch tomorrow.
Injury Update
-- Alex Gordon will miss his second game with back spasms. The Royals say it's nothing to worry about. That's why I'm working on Panic Mode.
-- Felipe Paulino will throw from the mound today for the first time since his Tommy John surgery. He will throw 20 pitches.
-- A piano fell on Lorenzo Cain last night.
