The Royals have re-signed left-handed pitcher Bruce Chen to a one-year deal with a mutual option for 2015. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.

The 36-year old Chen will begin his sixth season with the Royals. Last year he was 9-4 with a 3.27 ERA in 121 innings, split between the rotation and bullpen. In 143 career games with the Royals, he is 45-39 with a 4.32 ERA in 670 1/3 innings of work.

Chen will compete with Yordano Ventura, Wade Davis, Luke Hochevar, and Brad Penny for the fifth spot in the rotation. The Royals were said to have been rejected by Scott Baker yesterday when he signed with the Seattle Mariners.

This has been your Bruce Chen Joke of the Day.

EDIT: Financial terms disclosed. $3.25 million in 2014, $1 million buyout in 2015. Now THAT is your Bruce Chen Joke of the Day!
