Baltimore will send the 29-year-old Taiwanese southpaw Wei-Yin Chen to the mound to try to quiet the suddenly potent Kansas City Royals offense. In 31 starts and 185.2 IP this season, Not Bruce Chen was worth 2.6 fWAR while maintaining a 3.54 ERA, 3.89 FIP, 3.75 xFIP, 6.54 K/9, 1.70 BB/9. Much of his success was tied to the fact that he walked very few batters. Of qualified pitchers, he had the 12th-lowest walk rate in MLB.
Seeing as though the Royals had the lowest walk rate of any team in the AL, one can safely assume that the Royals will not be walking their way to victory this evening.
The Royals will send Jeremy Guthrie to the mound, who will make his first post-season appearance for Kansas City. Guthrie will rely upon his wiles, gumption, and help from the BABIP fairy, as per usual.
This game will be an fWAR.
