The Cardinals look to stave off elimination by throwing out Adam Wainwright, who may or may not be injured, against Madison Bumgarner. Bumgarner has given up only 2 runs in 23.2 innings. He has 23 strikeouts against only 3 walks. He's been on a different level this postseason, and I really don't want the Royals to face him in Game 1 of the World Series.
Wainwright, on the other hand, has made only 2 starts and didn't make it out of the 5th in either start. He's given up 9 runs, 8 earned, in 9 innings. He has only 7 strikeouts and 4 walks. To make it even more difficult for the Cardinals, Yadier Molina appears not able to play. Maybe the Cardinals trot him out for a pinch hitting appearance. Maybe they don't. It doesn't seem like he'll be able to catch, though. The difference between Molina and A.J. Pierzynski is probably similar to the difference between [insert supermodel here, like Fabio] and [insert grotesque abomination here].
It's a home game, the Cardinals are missing or have lesser contributions from stars, and the Giants have Bumgarner, who hasn't been hit well this postseason. Dare I say a Royals-Giants World Series?
