Royals claim OF Moises Sierra off waivers from the White Sox

The Royals get more depth in the outfield.

All this post-season action doesn't mean Dayton Moore gets to take October off. Known for being an active early participant in the off-season, Dayton has already made his first acquisition, claiming outfielder Moises Sierra off waivers from the Chicago White Sox. Sierra, a 26-year-old Dominican outfielder, hit .230/.265/.342 in 142 plate appearances for the Blue Jays and White Sox this season. The right-hander did miss some time with an oblique injury. In 449 career plate appearances, he has hit .243/.296/.383 in the big leagues.

Sierra has played primarily right-field in his career, but has made appearances at all three outfield positions. He hit .265/.329/.407 in the minor leagues, and will likely play at AAA Omaha next year, providing some outfield depth much like Carlos Peguero did last year.

The Royals will have to make a corresponding move on the 40-man roster if they are going to add Sierra to their 40-man roster.
