The Royals have waived outfielder Carlos Peguero according to 610's Josh Vernier. The 27-year old left-handed hitter hit 30 home runs for AAA Omaha this year, hitting .266/.349/.563. He appeared in four games for the Royals as well, going 2-for-9 with a double.
Peguero had been discussed as a possible solution in right-field a few weeks ago, but this was likely just posturing in negotiations with free agents like Torii Hunter and Alex Rios. Peguero has hit just .196/.245/.379 in 229 Major League plate appearances.
The move was made to put Alex Rios on the 40-man roster after his signing was made official. The Royals still need to clear two roster spots for Edinson Volquez and Kris Medlen. Peguero is free to be claimed by all 30 teams, but if he clears waivers he may be sent to Omaha.
