I listened to most of the game while getting in my first mow of the year. Much to my chagrin, it was The Steves on the call. Here's what I was able to glean.
-- Mike Moustakas failed to come up with a ball with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second. Field that ball cleanly and you start a 5-4-3 double play and get your starter out of the inning. The Steves pointed this out throughout the game. They also brought up the James Shields error on the sac bunt attempt.
-- Moustakas is becoming more of an all-around liability every day. File that under "O" for Obvious.
-- Hunter Dozier, powerman.
-- Aside from the Dozier home run and the defensive meltdown in the second, Shields pitched well. But the defense will betray you sometimes. Although with the putrid offense these days, a win was going to be difficult to find, even if Shields had clean defense behind him in the second.
-- Joe Mauer is doing Joe Mauer things.
-- Six hits today. Five hits on Friday. Against the Twins. The Twins.
-- Danny Duffy appeared out of the bullpen for the Royals and was effective in that he got outs. However, he still threw too many pitches. He retired all seven batters faced, but threw 45 pitches.
-- The Royals are now 0-2 on the road trip and 0-4 on the road this year. Their record drops to 4-6. Not the start they were looking for in April.
