Royals Bring Back Mitch Maier

Everyone's favorite camper is back! At least in the minors. MITCH!!!!

Rick Scuteri-US PRESSWIRE

The Royals have signed one-time Royal and fan favorite Mitch Maier to a minor league deal and have assigned him to AA Northwest Arkansas. Mitch is a former first round pick for the Royals, who last played in Kansas City in 2012. In parts of six seasons with the Royals, Mitch hit .248/.327/.344 in 1177 plate appearances with 1.4 rWAR. Mitch spent all of 2013 in AAA Pawtucket, hitting .310/.431/.451 in 31 games. The left-handed hitter is a career .298/.351/.457 hitter in the minors. He was in spring training with the Cubs earlier this year, but was let go in camp and has not played anywhere since then.

Mitch is perhaps best known on this site for his letters from summer camp, a throwback to childhood innocence from someone just excited to be in the big leagues despite his lack of playing time. Mitch can also pitch if needed, and at this point in his career, he may want to consider converting to the mound full-time.

What a glorious day. The Royals have a winning streak and Mitch is back. The only thing that could top this day is if Justin Huber came to my door selling vinyl siding.
