It is almost superfluous to write another article on this, given the wall-to-wall media coverage of the event, but Chris Getz announced his retirement from baseball today.
Though words are lacking in ability to convey the dread of this fateful day, I will let Walt Whitman try:
O CAPTAIN! my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:
But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.
Farewell, good Chris. Farewell. At least we will always have April 16, 2013.
Our hearts will forever have a void in them. (Or at least until next year when you are a part of the Royals coaching staff.)
