The Royals are lukewarm-hot right now, riding a four game winning streak, moving ahead of the Indians in both the Central Division and the Wild Card race. Just two games separate them from a potential playoff berth, but three teams - the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Mariners still stand in their way. With the Blue Jays and Yankees playing each other, the Royals have a chance to gain another game on one of them.
Jeremy Guthrie goes to the hill for the Royals against the team that originally drafted him. Guthrie has never fared well against Cleveland with a 5.89 career ERA in 12 games pitched. Jeremy righted the ship with a quality start his last time out despite a rough first inning, although the Royals dropped the game to Chris Sale and the White Sox. Guthrie was drilled in his previous two outings before that including a 7-3 loss to the Indians in which Jeremy was unable to pitch five innings.
Zach McAllister starts for the Indians on seven day's rest after getting called up today from AAA Columbus. The 26-year old right-hander has pitched better than his 5.28 ERA would indicate. He gave up just two runs in six innings in a win over the Royals back in April. McAllister throws in the low 90s, with a deep arsenal of pitches, with none of them being plus offerings.
