James Shields takes the hill for the 77-61 first-place Royals, who open a critical three-game series at Yankee Stadium against the Evil Empire. Kansas City has a 1.0 game lead in the AL Central.
Opposing Shields will be Michael Pineda; the two faced each other back on August 25 in what was an 8-1 Yankee victory. In a series that will feature way too much Derek Jeter for any of us, the Royals look to gain on the Tigers before the two meet in a critical three-game series next week.

This is the first time the Royals will play in Yankee Stadium while simultaneously leading the AL Central since 2003. With only 24 games remaining, let's hope for better fortune this time around.
