In the top of the second, Salvador Perez sent a ball careening into the right-field stands on an opposite field home run sent 400 feet from home plate. With Mike Moustakas just having worked a walk off of rookie Lance McCullers, the home run put two across home plate for an early two-run lead.
With the first batter of the bottom of the second, Yordano Ventura gave back some of the lead he had been given by his catcher when he served up a meatball for Carlos Gomez that he muscled 364 feet over the wall in left. In the bottom of the third, Ventura followed back-to-back strikeouts of Jose Altuve and George Springer with a first-pitch fastball inside to Carlos Correa that was crushed to left.
Ventura has allowed just three hits through three innings of work, striking out seven and walking none, but two of the three hits he allowed were smashed.
The Royals' offense has managed just two hits against McCullers thus far.
