On the second pitch of the game, Alcides Escobar lined a flare to right field that got past a diving Jose Bautista and died on the turf where he was unable to find the ball until Escobar was already heading to third. A pitch later, Ben Zobrist drove in the first run of the night with a groundout to Ryan Goins.
It took an inning for the Jays to answer, but once they started, they did not stop.
Cueto enabled a Toronto carousel around the bases. The Jays plated three runs with extreme prejudice in the second, singling and doubling the Royals to death.
In the third, it got much worse. Cueto handed out free passes like he wanted out of the game, and eventually served up a deep shot to dead-center to Troy Tulowitzki.
Kris Medlen came in in relief and got two outs before facing Josh Donaldson. Serving up a low strike in the middle of the plate, Medlen turned to watch as Donaldson hung another demoralizing dong. 9 - 2, Toronto.
