I heard that there was not enough coffee in Kansas City to satisfy the demand of groggy, lightly-hungover Royals fans this morning. I do not know about that; I had one cup at maybe 12:30pm or so. I am sure Starbucks is happy to oblige.
Anyway, late-inning heroics led to a few results. One, the Royals took Game 1. That is the most important thing, of course. However, two, the Royals had to trot out all their relievers except for Franklin Morales and Kris Medlen. Chris Young, the supposed Game 4 starter, had to throw a few innings. They were masterful innings, but they were innings nonetheless. With Johnny Cueto on the mound tonight, there is a chance that the Royals will have to turn to the bullpen again. Cueto needs to go deep into this game.
On the other hand, the Royals got to Matt Harvey. They got to Jeurys Familia. They got to Bartolo Colon. Other than Familia, the Mets' bullpen is not all that impressive. If they can get to Harvey, they can get to Jacob deGrom and Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz. Probably. If they can get to the starters, the bullpen rolls in, and that is where the Royals can shine.
