Baseball continues to exist in it's modest and limited spring form, but an end is nearing. Just twenty two more days until this mechanical and laborious warmup concludes and we are treated with "games that matter." Now, a true traditionalist will tell you this spring training games in fact do matter, but don't be deceived. A Cactus League title is a title only in name and not accomplishment.
But do not fear, we will have true games soon. Before that day comes though, the Royals will play today. Aaron Brooks will battle Kyle Kendrick of the Rockies. A duel that may be underwhelming but must exist for the first true game to happen.
Until that time, take comfort in the words of King Theoden as his army of Rohan ride to their assured deaths against Orcs and Morodor armies.
"Arise, arise, Riders of Kansas City!
Fell deeds awake: fire and slaughter!
spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered,
a sword-day, a red day, ere the sun rises!
Ride now, ride now! Ride to Surprise!"
