The 13-7 Royals cling to first place in the Cactus League by a mere half game over the Athletics (13-8) and are a game up on the Dodgers (10-6) and the Diamondbacks (12-8). With such a tenuous grasp on the Cactus League lead, the Royals will face the dastardly San Francisco Giants, who were most recently seen thwarting the Royals in the World Series last October.
The decidedly evil Giants will play host to the Royals in their facilities in Scottsdale. The Giants will send Jake Peavy to the mound. In an effort to emulate Peter Venkman, Egon Spengler, Ray Stantz, and Winston Zeddmore and bust the ghosts of postseason past after the Royals came up just short against Madison Bumgarner and the Madison Bumgarners, the Royals will send offseason free agent acquisition Edinson Volquez to the mound.
Both pitchers haven't been particularly good this spring. Volquez has given up 16 hits and nine earned runs in 8.1 innings while striking out four and walking only two. In 7.0 innings, Peavy has allowed 10 hits and six earned with five strikeouts, one walk, and two hit batsmen.
As has been mostly the case this spring, the game can be heard over the air on 610 or on the MLB app.
