Royals place closer Greg Holland on the disabled list

Yohan Pino is summoned from Omaha.

The Royals announced they have placed closer Greg Holland on the 15 day disabled list with a right pectoral strain and recalled pitcher Yohan Pino from AAA Omaha. Holland pitched in last night's ballgame, walking one hitter in a scoreless ninth to earn his league-leading fourth save. In four outings this year, Holland had yet to allow a hit this season.

Wade Davis will assume closer duties in Holland's absence, with Kelvin Herrera likely moving up to be the eighth-inning reliever. Yohan Pino will serve as more of a long-reliever. The Royals acquired the 31-year old right-hander as a minor league free agent after he spent last season in the Minnesota Twins organization. Pino had a 5.07 ERA in 60 1/3 innings in his rookie season last year. The Venezuelan had allowed just one hit with no runs or walks in a seven-inning start for Omaha.
