Edinson Volquez duels with Nick Martinez

The Royals offense failed to do much of anything against Rangers' starter Colby Lewis last night, and tonight they get to face the owner of a 1.47 ERA through six starts and 36.2 IP, Nick Martinez. While his 3.39 FIP introduces doubt into the veracity of that ERA and his 9.9 K% leads to genuine questions as to how exactly he is getting his outs, the fact remains that the ground-ball throwing right-hander has rather effectively neutralized run scoring thus far in 2015.

The man most hoping that the Royals offense figures out what the rest of the American League has yet to do--score on Martinez--is Royals starter Edinson Volquez, whose 3.09 FIP is a better mark than Martinez's but owns a 2.65 ERA, which is lovely but looks worse than it should next to his Ranger counterpart this evening.
