Elite Eight: Royals Review Sixth Inning Song Contest

Loggins V. Loggins will have to wait another week.

The Round of 16 brought about some intriguing story lines, specifically about a potential Loggins clash in the Elite Eight, and whether it would be a clean sweep for the favorites from the previous round.

Due to a stunning upset, Hold On by Wilson Philips (4) was defeated by the Anchorman rendition of Afternoon Delight (13), the latter of which secured over 66% of the vote. Kansas City by Little Richard/The Beatles (1) roundly defeated Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon, securing 86.3% of the vote.

The closest match up was Cult of Personality by Living Colour (5) which edged out Bowling for Soup's 1985 (12) 54.1-45.9.

Here is a full list of the winners:

  • Danger Zone - Kenny Loggins (7) 83.6%
  • The Boys Are Back In Town - Thin Lizzy (8) 75.3%
  • You're The Best Around - Joe Esposito (3) 82.2%
  • Walk - Pantera (6) 56.8%
  • Kansas City - Little Richard/The Beatles (1) 86.3%
  • Footloose - Kenny Loggins (2) 76.7%
  • Afternoon Delight - Anchorman Cast (13) 66.4%
  • Cult of Personality - Living Colour (5) 54.1%

Here are the match ups for the Elite Eight:

  • Kansas City (1) Vs. Afternoon Delight (13)
  • Footloose (2) Vs. The Boys Are Back In Town (8)
  • You're The Best Around (3) Vs. Danger Zone (7)
  • Cult of Personality (5) Vs. Walk (6)

Due to the Anchorman upset, we may end up not getting our Duelin' Loggins match up at all until the Championship Round, and Danger Zone would have to defeat the titan that is Kansas City.
