Erik Kratz to the disabled list, Francisco Pena called up

Doesn't matter, neither is going to play much anyway.

The Royals have placed catcher Erik Kratz on the 15 day disabled list due to a foot injury he suffered in Sunday's game against Detroit. To replace him on the roster they have called up catcher Francisco Pena from AAA Omaha. The 25-year old Pena was hitting .239/.282/.343 in 73 plate appearances for Omaha. The son of former Royals manager Tony Pena, Francisco appeared in one game for the Royals last season, but did not get to hit. He hit a career-high 27 home runs for Omaha last season.

Kratz had appeared in just four games this season, with just one start. Salvador Perez leads all Major League catchers in innings caught with 221 2/3.

In other news today, the Royals officially activated closer Greg Holland from the disabled list and sent Yohan Pino to AAA Omaha. Holland had been out since April 18 with a strained right pectoral muscle. Pino had not given up a run in 10 2/3 innings pitched in relief this year.
