There's a lot going on lately for the Royals, and it feels like they are managing to get by with the best record in the American League. Ventura left his start yesterday after three innings. An MRI today revealed "irritation" of the ulnar nerve, but somehow he is not expected to miss a start.
Jason Vargas was placed on the disabled list today, making Chris Young a more permanent fixture of the rotation whilst turning our thoughts to the return of Kris Medlen.
And then today, Jeremy Guthrie will throw for the boys in blue. He's 4-3 with a 5.82 ERA, though his last two starts (since giving up eleven earned runs) have been good.
The Cardinals counter with Tyler Lyons, who is making his fourth start of the season. He is 0-0 with a 5.54 ERA, but has a nice 3.64 xFIP and has struck out 11.77 batters per nine innings.
