My 2015 Big Draft Board

New, comments

Let's take a look at the top names in the draft.

Below is a list of 36 players that have gotten some first round love. It's not all encompassing, but it should cover all the early-to-mid round guys and some of the later first round guys. Anybody who is on the Royals board for the 22nd overall pick should be included. This is based a little more on the mocks that have come out, rather than the draft rankings that usually come out a month or more before the draft. That's why you see some guys with higher averages than 30 or so because some teams are really in on them after they've improved their draft stock (though maybe haven't changed their future potential).

Some guys of course slipped due to signability concerns or questions about their medicals (like our own Scott Blewett).

If Aiken's UCL, lack thereof, or whatever the question teams have ends up being nothing, he's going to be a steal in this years draft (assuming someone doesn't take him in the first ten picks - which is unlikely).

Hits/Misses (so far):

Miss: My concerns about Tyler Beede still exists, and this years he's been better by runs allowed, but he's sacrificed walks for strikeouts.

Hit: Glad Grant Holmes is proving me right. He has struck out 11 batters per 9 over his 44 innings so far with a 3.22 ERA, but has been a little more loose in the zone than last year.

Hit: Forrest Wall continues to be my guy, hitting for average and power I was expecting. Admittedly haven't heard reports on his defense this year but the Rockies have been playing him at 2B all year so they seem to trust the projection.

Miss: I was higher on Michael Gettys than most and he's been pretty poor in his full season debut. He had a 124 wRC+ in short season last year, but strikeouts have hurt him badly this year (as most expected). He's still a long term project, but his debut could obviously be going better...

I've done my board later in the spring than the national pundits do (so I've got a little more knowledge of what the players have done) but they are also more resourceful, can travel, and are smarter than me, so I'm just trying to level the playing fields.
