The flames have arrived. The eve of throwing is upon us.
Yordano Ventura toes the rubber for Kansas City, a team looking to get back on track after getting crushed in the first two games of this four-game set.
Ventura (7-7, 4.82 ERA) has pitched much the same way he has all season, but the results have been remarkable his last two starts. He has 15 strikeouts in 13 innings while yielding just two runs and seven hits.
The Red Stockings counter with Matt Barnes (3-3, 6.59), who has been pressed into service as a starter and will make just his second major league appearance in that role. In his first start, he went just five innings and gave up six earned runs to Cleveland while striking out seven and walking three.
He averaged about 94mph on his fastball in his last start, but he's right-handed, so it should be alright.
