Royals V. Deviled Rays: Game CXXVIII Thread

Wherein they pickle the figs themselves.

Tonight, the Royals face off against the team from Tampa, who are fighting for their very lives for that coveted second Wild Card spot.

Edinson Volquez tilts for the Royals, piggybacking off of what was arguably the best start of Yordano Ventura's career. Volquez is 11-7 for Kansas City this season, and has continued his recent trend of outperforming his peripherals with a 3.40 ERA against a 3.73 FIP. He's brought in 2.2 fWAR on the season thus far, and has been a notch in Dayton Moore's free agent cap for the better part of the year.

The Rays counter with Erasmo Ramirez, who is similar to Volquez in both Cool Name Factor (CNF) and performance. He's 10-4 with a 3.66 ERA and a 3.96 FIP.

If only Tampa had a better stadium. And if only people came to games. The Rays drew under 10,000 in attendance each game against fellow Wild Card contender the Minnesota Twins. Presumably, they'll draw better for a weekend series against the best team in the American League.
