The Royals and White Sox will try to begin their truncated three-game series tonight (weather permitting). The Royals can still take over first place with a sweep, but the job is much harder now that Chris Sale will start on Sunday.
Tonight it is right-hander Miguel Gonzalez going for the White Sox. The Royals have historically handled the native Mexican well, winning six of his seven starts, including Game Four of the 2014 American League Championship Series when he was with the Baltimore Orioles. Gonzalez has seen his strikeouts rise this year, but that has come with a loss of command, as his walk rate has jumped to 4.15 per-nine-innings this season. Gonzalez throws around 90 mph with his fastball, and has a deep repertoire with a curveball, slider, and change up.
Going for the Royals is Danny Duffy, who will still be on a pitch limit, probably around 75-80 pitches. By the way, it will be a different-looking Danny Duffy tonight.
Danny Duffy has shaved his beard and head. "Just because," he said, shrugging. #Royals— Jeffrey Flanagan (@FlannyMLB) May 24, 2016
One day he came home from school and he was just hot.
Adam Eaton sits tonight with Avi Garcia in right field, which is a huge defensive downgrade.
Brett Eibner gets his first MLB start tonight, so congrats to him.
