First comes tragedy, then comedy, then absurdity. Eight games isn't enough to cross the threshold yet, but it certainly is bouncing up against the edges of acceptable dramaturgy.
The Royals are averaging 1.63 runs per game. Considering they scored five in yesterday's loss should give you some keen insight into how the other seven games have gone. No one is hitting. No one is pitching well (starters at least). Curious managerial decisions? You betcha.
But hey. Never say it can't get worse.
Danny Duffy tilts for the Royals. The same Danny Duffy that started the year in the bullpen, and is now pretty much Kansas City's best starting pitcher. He has a 3.35 ERA on the year, and as a starter he has 28 strikeouts in 25 innings with just two walks. Much gnar.
The Pale Hose counter with the most underrated pitcher in baseball, Jose Quintana. Though he is 5-6 on the year, his ERA (2.58) and FIP (2.35) put him in the top 5 in the American League this season. So won't that be fun.
