The Royals announced they have recalled pitcher Dillon Gee and optioned reliever Scott Alexander to Omaha. The 30-year old Gee was optioned to Omaha on June 1 to make room for the activation of Chris Young off the disabled list. in 40 innings with the Royals, he has a 4.28 ERA with 39 strikeouts and 14 walks. His demotion came after a pair of disappointing starts in which he gave up ten runs in nine innings of work, including four home runs. Gee will likely joint the bullpen, where he was been more successful this season. Chris Young had his scheduled start today bumped back to Tuesday against Cleveland, and if he falters, Gee could step back into the rotation.
Scott Alexander had a 4.85 ERA in 13 innings of relief with 11 strikeouts and five walks. He started off strong, but gave up five runs over his last three outings. The move leaves the Royals without a left-handed reliever in their bullpen.
