The ESPY Awards are coming up this summer, and the Royals have been nominated as "Best Team". The defending World Series champions are up against winners of the other major sports, including the Denver Broncos, Cleveland Cavaliers, Pittsburgh Penguins, Alabama football, Villanova men's basketball, and Connecticut women's basketball.
Royals manager Ned Yost, who managed in his second consecutive World Series last fall, has been nominated for "Best Coach/Manager". Yost is up against Connecticut women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma, Villanova men's basketball coach Jay Wright, Alabama football coach Nick Saban, and Cleveland Cavaliers coach and Raytown native Tyronn Lue.
ESPN has already announced that Zaevion Dobson, a high school football player who died while saving the lives of three girls from a hail of bullets, will be honored with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. NBA sideline reporter Craig Sager, who is battling cancer, will be honored with the Jimmy V Perseverance Award.
