Third baseman Hunter Dozier and outfielder Jorge Bonifacio have been named to the Futures Game, to be played Sunday, July 10 during All-Star week in San Diego. Dozier has rebounded from a disastrous 2015 season with an outstanding year, hitting .305/.400/.642 with 8 HR 21 RBI in 26 games with AA Northwest Arkansas before being promoted to AAA Omaha where he continued to impress, hitting .298/.347/.492 with 7 HR 23 RBI in 47 games. The 24-year old was a first-round pick by the Royals in 2013 out of Stephen F. Austin State. Dozier will play for the U.S. Team.
Jorge Bonifacio has hit .299/.361/.523 with 12 HR 51 RBI in 74 games for AAA Omaha this season. The 23-year old right-handed hitter was once ranked as a Top 100 prospect by Baseball America before the 2014 season, but had a poor showing in Northwest Arkansas that year. He hit better last season in AA, before tearing up the Pacific Coast League this year. The Dominican-born Bonifacio will play for the World Team.
Full Futures Game rosters are available here. The game will feature former #1 overall pick shortstop Dansby Swanson, Red Sox third baseman Yoan Moncada, and White Sox pitcher Carson Fulmer. The U.S. team is managed by Trevor Hoffman and the World Team is managed by Moises Alou.
The game will be broadcast on MLB Network at 6pm CT, and will also be streamed live on MLB.com, and broadcast on Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
