The Royals have placed outfielder Lorenzo Cain on the 15-day disabled list with a hamstring injury and have recalled outfielder Brett Eibner from AAA Omaha. Cain suffered a Grade-1 hamstring injury to his left leg in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. A Grade-1 injury is a minor tear of a few muscle fibers. The Royals have not given a timetable for his return.
The play happened in the seventh inning as Cain was running to first base trying to beat out a ground ball. Cain clutched his hamstring as he stretched to bag.
Cain exited the game after being checked by trainer Nick Kenney and was replaced by Jarrod Dyson. Lorenzo Cain was plagued with injuries early in his career, but has avoided the disabled list since April of 2014 when he missed two weeks with a groin injury.
Lorenzo Cain was batting .290/.336/.416 on the year with 8 HR 39 RBI. Brett Eibner has hit .297/.350/.514 in 11 games with the Royals, and will be making his third stint with the team this year.
