Royals recall Christian Colon, send Tony Cruz to Omaha

Goodbye Tony Cruz, we hardly knew ye.

The Royals have recalled infielder Christian Colon from AAA Omaha and have optioned catcher Tony Cruz back to Omaha. Colon returns after being demoted on May 18. The 26-year old former first-round pick was hitting .250/.313/.295 in 48 plate appearances before his demotion. In Omaha, he was hitting .266/.338/.375 in 16 games, starting ten games at shortstop. The move gives the Royals more infield depth after Cheslor Cuthbert sustained an injury in Monday's game against Baltimore when he was struck by a throw from Orioles second baseman Jonathan Schoop on a double play ball.

Tony Cruz was brought up as a backup while Salvador Perez missed a week after sustaining a knee injury. He appeared in just three games, going hitless in three at-bats.
