American League All-Star manager Ned Yost announced his starting lineup, batting Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer sixth and catcher Salvador Perez eighth. Perez will be starting his third consecutive All-Star Game while Hosmer will be making his first ever All-Star appearance. John Mayberry is the only other Royals first baseman to start an All-Star Game.

Yost also chose his starting pitcher, electing to go with White Sox left-hander Chris Sale on the mound. Sale is 14-3 with a 3.38 ERA and is fourth among American League starting pitchers in WAR, according to Fangraphs. Yost says he expects Corey Kluber, Cole Hamels, Aaron Sanchez, and Jose Quintana to pitch the first five innings.

Three former Royals will start for the National League - first baseman Wil Myers of the Padres, second baseman Ben Zobrist of the Cubs, and pitcher Johnny Cueto of the Giants.

The 87th MLB All-Star Game will be held Tuesday, July 12 at Petco Park in San Diego. Coverage begins at 7:30 CT on FOX and will be streamed live on the Fox Sports Go app.
