Royals Rumblings - News for July 20, 2016
Left-hander Mike Minor is nearing a rehab assignment.
"It looked like (he was ready) to me," Yost said. "We’ll let him get through his other ‘pen, sit down with (trainer Nick Kenney) and see where we’re at."
Minor said his shoulder is pain-free, but he is still getting a feel for his pitches. His bullpens have ranged from "awful" to "pretty good." Tuesday was another improvement.
"It was pretty good," Minor said. "Could it be better? Yeah. But I threw some good pitches and felt pretty positive coming out of that."
The fifth spot in the rotation is in flux.

David Lesky at Baseball Prospectus Kansas City looks at some possible pitchers the Royals could acquire in a trade.
Jeremy Hellickson – I think Hellickson would be the most Royals and Dayton Moore acquisition you can imagine. When he’s been good, it always seems he’s been good in spite of everything. He’s not quite the extreme fly ball pitcher he’s made out to be, but he’s definitely not a ground ball pitcher. He’s started to strike out more batters and he does have good control, so he’s a guy you can catch lightning in a bottle with. He’s owed a bit more than $3 million and then is a free agent following the season, but I think he’ll be in demand, so he might cost more than he’s worth. Scratch that, he will cost more than he’s worth. I could absolutely see this happening, but I’m not going to love it if and when it does.
Leigh Oleszczak at KC Kingdom says its time for the Royals to be sellers.
Look. I’m all about "championship windows" and trying to win when you can, but does anyone really think this KC Royals squad can win the World Series this year? I sure don’t.
Maybe if Mike Moustakas wasn’t out for the year or if half the team hadn’t spent time on the disabled list, the odds would be better, but sadly that’s not the case.
The truth is that this Royals team is just mediocre at best, and they should try to get some decent prospects while they have an opportunity to.
Raul Mondesi fell a single short of the cycle and hit his first AAA home run.
Top SP prospect Matt Strahm is moving to the bullpen at AA for rest of season. Move made in case he’s needed for bullpen duty in KC.
