The Royals welcome back Lorenzo Cain to the lineup tonight after he missed a month with a hamstring injury. He injured himself running out a ground ball back on June 28 against the Cardinals. Cain was hitting .290/.336/.416 with 8 HR 39 RBI in 73 games before his injury. The Royals averaged just 3.4 runs per game in his absence. The Royals have suggested that Cain could play some right field to rest his legs more and avoid any further injury. Cain appeared in two games at Omaha for his rehab assignment, going 3-for-8.
To make room on the roster, the Royals optioned outfielder Brett Eibner to AAA Omaha. After a hot start, Eibner had been in a major slump, going 1 for his last 22. Overall he was hitting .231/.286/.423 with 3 HR in 26 games.
