Royals Rumblings - News for July 5, 2016
Ned Yost had no hesitation about sending Edinson Volquez out for the seventh last night.
"There’s absolutely no thought about taking him out after six," Yost said. "He had great action on his fastball — good hard, biting action. (He had) good curveballs, good changeups. He was at 85 pitches."...
"We were going for the double play right there; Eddie’s ball was still diving good," Yost said. "Eddie tried to go in with a sinker and it was just too far in."
Ned has no answers for the team's inconsistency.
"I'm not going to use injuries as an excuse," Yost said. "We've been inconsistent at times offensively. When we got our pitching and hitting together, that's when we have gone on runs.
"But then we've had inconsistency, too, with our starting pitching. It's a lot of things." Yost also doesn't believe that getting frustrated is productive. "There's no reason to get frustrated about it," Yost said. 'You just deal with it."
Lee Judge thinks AL teams are at an unfair disadvantage playing in National League parks.
Even so, National League pitchers are much more used to standing in the batter’s box, laying down bunts and, if they should be so unfortunate as to get a hit, running the bases. Far be it from me to criticize the people who run baseball – the same people who were in charge when players were pumping steroids and ruining the record books, the same people who thought it was a good idea to have an exhibition game decide home field advantage in the World Series and the same people who think ending a baseball season in November is a great idea – but when an American League team plays in a National League park, the AL team is at a disadvantage.
Ned Yost says his All-Star rosters are pretty much set. They will be revealed tonight at 6.
