The Kansas City Royals and Chicago White Sox are playing tonight with the series on the line. Neither team seems poised to make a surprise playoff run, but it is still technically possible for both teams. Both are running out of time to do so.

The Royals will attempt for this victory without starting designated hitter Kendrys Morales. As such, the lineup they field is 142% wonk.

Yes, that is Alcides Escobar, worst hitter in the American League over the past two seasons, hitting sixth. Thankfully, Danny Duffy, second coming of the Great Zack Greinke, starts.

Playoff teams generally do not need to beat a reasonably lackadaisical White Sox club with such a poor lineup, but the Royals will try.
