The Royals really need every series at this point, but taking two of three on the road from a serious American League contender would be the feather in their cap to put the league on notice - this is for real. The Royals have one of the league's best pitchers in Danny Duffy going for them tonight, and I don't need to tell you how hot Duffy has been lately, giving up three or fewer runs in each of his last seven starts for a 1.60 ERA over that time.
Duffy faces David Price, who has also been sneaky good, despite his 4.00 ERA. Price has a 3.45 FIP and has struck out a hitter per inning, so expect him to still be a tough matchup.
Duffy has really struggled in Fenway in the past, giving up 12 runs in 15 1/3 innings. But some of that is small sample size noise, and this has been a different Duffy this year. Besides, if we're worried about small sample size matchups, the Royals seemed to handle David Price just fine in recent memory.
