We're in zombie time of the season! The dog days of summer, as it were. The Kansas City Royals are not yet out of contention, giving the appearance of hope, but for all intents and purposes they are already gone. They are 10 games behind the Cleveland Indians with two months to go and, well, have you been watching the Royals lately?
Tonight's day game after a night game usually spells some manner of doom as well. The Royals send Ian Kennedy to the mound, who has not been good. In less depressing news, Billy Burns makes his Royals debut this morning.

The Tampa Bay Rays send Drew Smyly to the mound.
Coming off back-to-back quality starts and a W vs. NYY, @SmylyD takes the ball for the finale vs. @Royals. #RaysUp pic.twitter.com/EkZGv6ODv4

Because I've been so down in this pregame, here's a picture of a kitten. It'll be ok.
